Spring

A light exists in spring
Not present on the year
At any other period.
When March is scarcely here

A color stands abroad
On solitary hills
That silence cannot overtake,
But human nature feels.

It waits upon the lawn;
It shows the furthest tree
Upon the furthest slope we know;
It almost speaks to me.

Then, as horizons step,
Or noons report away,
Without the formula of sound,
It passes, and we stay:

A quality of loss
Affecting our content,
As trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a sacrament.

Emily Dickinson

Summer

"Oh Day of Fire and Sun"

Oh day of fire and sun,
Pure as a naked flame,
Blue sea, blue sky and dun
Sands where he spoke my name;
Laughter and hearts so high
That the spirit flew off free,
Lifting into the sky
Diving into the sea;
Oh day of fire and sun
Like a crystal burning,
Slow days go one by one,
But you have no returning.

Sarah Teasdale

Fall

The Falling of the Leaves

AUTUMN is over the long leaves that love us,
And over the mice in the barley sheaves;
Yellow the leaves of the rowan above us,
And yellow the wet wild-strawberry leaves.
The hour of the waning of love has beset us,
And weary and worn are our sad souls now;
Let us part, ere the season of passion forget us,
With a kiss and a tear on thy drooping brow.

William Butler Yeats

Winter

How like a winter hath my absence been
From thee, the pleasure of the fleeting year!
What freezings have I felt, what dark days seen!
What old December’s bareness every where!

William Shakespeare

GREDOS AT WINTER TIME
One´s you are by the place, there are many great things to enjoy. Our charming rural lodgin is located in a unique physical setting: La sierra de Gredos Natural Park, placed on the Sistema Central mountain range, 62 km away from the medieval city of Ávila, famous because of its big wall around it. ( http://www.avilaturismo.com/touristic-guide).

Gredos affords a spectacular mountain environment which represents one of the most interesting natural areas in Western Europe from the biological point of view. At the Nineties this area was appointed as “Regional Park “ and since then is protected by Spanish environmental laws and regulations.

During your stay you will be able to discover the Gredos mountain, it´s highland meadows or the pine forest next to the Tormes river.

You can also organize climbing excursions to the sharp, broken peaks and steep crevices of the mountains, the most outstanding of which are the Circo and the Laguna Grande de Gredos, although there are many interesting places and smaller mountain lakes to delight everyone.

The Sistema Central mountain range reaches its highest elevation within the Gredos area at Almanzor, a granite colossus of 2,592 metres in height.

There are many itineraries to select the excursions that most appeals to you. Activities like horse and bike ridding, tree-top climbing, arch target shooting, municipal swimming pool (1 km away), etc. are also available. At the area there are many companies that offer all kind of adventure tourism.

Well prepared people may be interested in trekking activities into the Circo and Laguna Grande de Gredos, (glacial circus and lagoon) and its surrounding, including reaching the top of Almanzor, a granite colossus of 2,592 metres height.. Climbing activities should be only faced by well trained and equipped people, and will need local expert guidance.

There are many signalized routes at your choice with easy walks for everybody just by the forest, river, meadows and “gargantas”.
You can also reach walking Gredos Parador (2 km), King Alfonso XIII old hunting lodging in the area. Just bellow a beautiful pine tree wood goes down Tormes river and its “gargantas” (highland springs climbing down the mountains).

“a beautiful and welcoming house, excellent”
We have spent a great weekend, the house is really beautiful and welcoming. We felt like our own home. The house is tastefully decorated and with all the details, fireplace, barbecue, large garden, bathroom in all rooms.
The house is very well situated near the mountain and the views are beautiful. It is a wonderful breakfast watching the sunrise over the mountains and horses in the meadow or take a nap in the sun. Finally the owner is very friendly and nice. I have rented many houses all over Spain and I would definitely recommend this house is one of the most beautiful and pleasant.

“Exhilarating stay in Gredos”
Opinión escrita el 6 septiembre 2011 para una estancia en Junio de 2011
The house was wide, nicely decorated, neat and tidy; it made you feel like a local landowner in the middle of a beautiful valley. There were lots of activities to do (with or without children) and service was diligent and kind.
We will definitely return to this place!

“Amazing location.”
Opinión escrita el 29 agosto 2011 para una estancia en Agosto de 2011
A great house. I've been in different houses in the area and recognize it is difficult to find a house so full.
The area is amazing, the pinewood in Navarredonda is really unbeliable, the few places that are so majestic and no crowds yet.
Gredos, in turn, allows the practice of mountain sports in both winter and summer, so you can combine your vacation with the family to practice your favorite outdoor sport. In short, highly recommended.

NEW ROUTE: TO SEE OR NOT TO SEE, THAT´S THE CUESTION

Gredos smells of wood and leaf, earth, grass and water...; It is yellow, green, grey and white, it´s tastes of mushrooms, apples and blackberries…; Its touch of old stone, pine and snow, It´s sounds of brisk winds, cascading wáter, the song of birds, and silence. FEEL Gredos, the empire of senses.

The route will show you how to discover aspects of your senses you didn’t know you had by being blindfolded in the wilderness if you dare. It is said that Gredos got its name from the the Celtic term “Greda”, which means "White". The color white is a symbol of purity. In terms of light, white encompasses the complete spectrum of all colours. Like its name infers, Gredos is both pure and diverse. In Gredos you feel what you see. We invite you to come and feel this special, simple and exciting, experience.

We will make sure that you FEEL Gredos in a unique way. You can climb to the highest of heights and take in the farthest of sights, in the trustworthy hands of an expert mountain guide, Mercedes Sánchez. Along the way she will explain and point out to you the Gredos mountain range’s geological origins and details, the ecosystem and wildlife habitat, and all the forest’s secrets. And if you dare, Mercedes will show you how to discover aspects of your senses you didn’t know you had by being blindfolded in the wilderness.
